Homosexuality in Islam
What is Islam?
It is important to understand what is Islam and what it preaches to us. Islam is the religion of Muslims with approx 1.8 billion followers. Islam believes that humans and other beings are solely created for the hereafter. This universe is not home to any being. It's just a test by Allah Almighty (The God) to see who is worthy enough for Jannah (paradise). As mentioned in the Holy Quran (The holy book):
"Dunya (the world) is nothing but a beautiful lie." (Quran 3:185).
It is believed that the heavens were created for mankind and jinns where they would live in eternity. This time on Earth will decide who will enter Jannah (paradise) and who will enter Jahannum (hell).
Qoum-e-loot(AS)
Now that you know the basics, let's start with some history lessons. Qoum-e-loot, the nation and people of Hazrat Loot (AS). Approximately 124,000 messengers were sent to Earth to preach Islam. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the last messenger. Prophet Loot (AS) is one of the messengers of Allah. He preached Islam back around 1980 BC. The people of Loot (AS) were one of the first to practice Homosexuality. His people were continuously practicing these shameful activities, mainly sodomy, and were very proud of it.
Being a Prophet, Loot (AS) tried his best to stop his people and warned them about the consequences but, people rejected him and his prophethood.
“Leaving the wives that your Lord has created for you? In fact, you are a transgressing people [Quran 26: 166] .”
Prophet Loot (AS) was worried. Not a single soul in Sodom had converted to Islam, despite countless years of preaching. There was only one Muslim home in Sodom, While Loot and his daughters remained faithful, his wife continued in being a non-believer.
What happened next?
After some period, prophet Loot (AS) finally asked Allah Almighty for help and support. As a result, Allah sent three angels disguised as handsome men to Loot's house. Seeing such handsome men, Loot's wife (non-believer) informed the town about them. Soon after, many people gathered around Loot's house and started hitting on his door. One of the angels (Jibrael), came out and all men lost their visions. These men were then shocked and furious. They started yelling and cursing and warned Loot that they shall return tomorrow for revenge.
The angels then said:
“O Lut, we are emissaries of your Lord. They shall never reach you. So, move with your family in a part of the night, and none of you shall turn to look back; except your woman. There has to befall her whatever will befall them. Their deadline is the morning. Is it not that the morning is near?” (Quran 11:81)
A loud scream was heard throughout the city the next morning, filling the citizens with terror. The city was then jerked from the bottom of Jibreel's wing, lifted into the air, bent, and smashed to the ground. The residents of Sodom were then put to death by clay stones that fell from the sky. This place is now known as the Dead Sea.
This story is the perfect example of Allah's response and his anger towards homosexuality. No matter how far the world goes on with this, Allah's words are clearly said:
"O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another..." (Quran 49:13)
