The Silly Mistake
We moved into a new area but are silliness remained same as before. It all happened when we went to a town called Clifton. After we resided there for about a week, we discovered many intriguing things but, we also found out about the famous thief of Clifton.
I kinda got scared because no one had ever caught that thief for the past two years. After living there for a month, the fear was almost subdued. However, the thief's non-existent arrival was announced the following day. But it wasn’t actually the thief, we only thought it was him.
It was around midnight when the lights went out. We lived together with our uncle who stayed in the downstairs apartment. So when the lights went out, my mom went downstairs to turn on the generator, accompanied by my aunt. They saw a light flash by.
They both were using their cell phone flashlights and together they mistakenly thought that the thief had passed them. In petrified spirits, they woke everyone up. My dad got hold of his gun and proceeded towards the supposed crime scene.
My uncle, who was still in his bedroom called my father to confirm his wife's story, as they were often ridiculously false. However, when he heard the ringing of a cell phone from the backyard, he immediately called the cops, thinking the thief was on their property.
On hearing my uncle's scared shouting, father also hastened to call the police. It took a half an hour to find out what had actually happened, but by then it was too late. The cops had us surrounded.
Before we could explain to them what had happened, the officers spotted the real thief running past the neighbourhood with two dogs hot in his pursuit. They caught the thief and thinking that we were the ones who alerted them they gave us a reward, they gave us a 100$. Who knew that our mistake could lead us into this?
